I am using Overleaf for a latex document. How can I add a footnote to the document?

You can use the \footnote command for creating footnotes. Here are two forms of footnotes:

  • \footnote{your text for footnote}: This puts the footnote at the bottom of the page and also inserts an automatically-generated superscript number, called the footnote marker.
  • \footnote[number]{your text for footnote}: This puts the footnote at the bottom of the page with the footnote marker given by the number.
